The leg-spinner scalped a five-wicket haul on debut, during the third day of the ongoing third Test match against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi, to pave way for England’s likely clean sweep in the three-match series.
The teenager returned with bowling figures of 14.5-1-48-5, as Pakistan were bundled out at the score of 216 in 74.5 Overs, handing the visitors a target of 167 runs.
The chase for England yet again began in the familiar emphatic manner, with the opening pair of Ben Duckett (50*) and Zak Crawley (41) smashing 87 runs by the 12th Over.
With the win at sight, England skipper Ben Stokes sent in Ahmed post the fall of Crawley’s wicket, with the bad light threatening to end the day’s play early.
Much to the delight of his skipper and the team, Ahmed smashed a Four the first ball he faced, to as if own the ‘Bazball’ approach. He however, perished at the score of 10 (8), as England require just 55 more runs to win, with 8 wickets and two days of play left.
Is Rehan Ahmed Pakistani
Rehan Ahmed was born in August 2004 in England’s Nottingham to Naeem Ahmed (father) and Musrat Hussain (mother). He spent all of his childhood in England, and went on to represent the country in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup this year as well. He thus, is well and truly English.
His father, however, originally hails from Mirpur in Pakistan, but migrated to England alongside his family, which also includes two other sons.
Rehan’s brothers Farhan Ahmed and Raheem Ahmed are also part of the English county teams. While the former Nottinghamshire 2nd XI, the latter plays for Leicestershire 2nd XI at present.
