Jadeja 50: Watch Ravindra Jadeja completes half-century in practice match before WTC Final 2021

Ravindra Jadeja 50: The Indian all-rounder scored a half-century in a practice match leading to the World Test Championship final.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has commenced his tour of England with a half-century in the ongoing warm-up match leading up to the final match of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship.

Jadeja, 32, had last played for India during the New Year’s Test of India’s tour of Australia in Sydney earlier this year. Ruled out of the historic Brisbane Test and the England series at home due to an injury, Jadeja had returned to the field in the now postponed Indian Premier League 2021.

In such a situation, performing in a warm-up match simulation would have given the southpaw ample amount of confidence. As per a video posted by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Jadeja stepped out to pacer Ishant Sharma to dab the ball on the leg-side and sneak a run in a bid to complete his half-century.

Since the match doesn’t have the status of a first-class match, proper scorecard or highlights of the same aren’t available. However, if reports are to be believed, opening batsman Rohit Sharma also scored a half-century in Southamptpon today. Lokesh Rahul, on the other hand, registered a three-figure score to be among the runs.

Part of India’s 20-member squad for the tour of England, Jadeja is among the four spin-bowling contenders also comprising of Ravichandran Ashwin, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel. Going forward, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see India captain Virat Kohli playing both Jadeja and Ashwin in the Test Championship final.

In the five Tests that Jadeja has played in England, he has picked 16 wickets at an average and strike rate of 42.37 and 87.3 respectively. In 10 Test batting innings on the English soil, Jadeja’s 276 runs have come at an average of 30.66 with the help of two half-centuries.
