KKR vs DC Man of the Match: Who was awarded Man of the Match in IPL 2020 Match 42?

KKR vs DC Man of the Match: The spinner from Kolkata Knight Riders was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ for his magnificent spell.

During the 42nd match of the ongoing 13th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by 59 runs to register their sixth win this season.

Having not done too well of late, Kolkata desperately needed such a victory under their belt especially at this stage of the tournament. The margin of the victory means that both batsmen and bowlers did well to improve their team’s net run rate.

After Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field, Knight Riders posted a dominating 194/6 in 20 overs on the back of a match-winning 115-run partnership between Nitish Rana (81) and Sunil Narine (64).

In the second innings, Knight Riders spearhead Pat Cummins dismissed DC’s opening batsmen in Ajinkya Rahane (6) and Shikhar Dhawan (6) in his first two overs to jostle the opposition. However, it was Kolkata spinner Varun Chakravarthy who ran through the opposition’s middle-order via his maiden T20 five-wicket haul.

Having registered bowling figures of 4-0-20-5, the 29-year old spinner was elected the ‘Man of the Match’ for picking the best bowling figures of IPL 2020.

“This is surreal. The last few games I didn’t get wickets. I wanted to get one or two today, but thank god, I got five. I enjoyed Shreyas Iyer’s wicket the most. I was bowling to the shorter boundary so I had to attack the stumps.

“I want to thank my mother Hema Malini, father Vinoth Chakravarathy and fiancée Neha. And DK [Dinesh Karthik] bhai, Abhishek Nayar and all my physios,” Chakravarthy told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
