MA Chidambaram Stadium T20 Records: Chepauk Chennai IPL Records and Highest Innings Totals

Cricket fans in Chennai would be praying for Chennai Super Kings to do to Lucknow Super Giants what Royal Challengers Bangalore did to Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru during the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2023 Match 5.

Unlike the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, MA Chidambaram Stadium is not hosting an IPL match after nearly four years. Having said that, much like RCB, CSK will also be playing their first home match in almost four years.

Played between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad roughly a couple of years ago, the last IPL match at this iconic venue had witnessed a super over. If truth be told, only a riveting contest of that magnitude will be absolutely fitting for Super Kings’ homecoming.

In their 60 home matches, Chennai have won 41 and lost 18 to have maintained a terrific record in the last decade-and-a-half. LSG, whose last match was their first one at their home ground, will be playing for the first time in Chennai on Monday.

There have been >15 instances of 200+ innings totals across 97 Men’s T20s played at this stadium. Speaking of successful run-chases in Chennai T20s, CSK and Punjab Kings are the only team to have sealed run chases in excess of 200 runs here.

It was around 11 years ago when the hosts had chased down a 206-run chase against RCB in a last-ball thriller. With them needing 43 runs in the last two overs, the contest is fondly remembered for Morkel scoring as many as 28 runs off Kohli’s penultimate over. The second instance is only five years old when Super Kings had chased down a 203-run target against Kolkata Knight Riders.
