MCG attendance today: What is the crowd at MCG today Day 1 of Boxing Day Test?

Australia and South Africa are up against each other in the 2nd test of the 3-match series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. This match is a special one as it is a Boxing Day test and after Christmas, there is a lot of buzz about this game. Australia again won the toss and opted to bowl.

The pitch at the Gabba was criticized a lot, but it is safe to say that the pitch at the MCG has way lesser demons than that in Brisbane. Although, the Australian bowlers still proved their class and managed to restrict South Africa to just 189 runs. Cameron Green scalped an excellent fifer.

The duo of Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen scored their individual half-centuries and stitched 112 runs for the 6th wicket, but the rest of the batters failed to impress. David Warner is playing his 100th test, and he got a decent start as well.

MCG attendance today

The Boxing Day test at the MCG is one of the most anticipated events in Australia. Melbourne Cricket Ground is one of the most iconic venues in the world, and it is one of the biggest as well in terms of crowd capacity. Ahead of the test match, high attendance is always expected at the venue.

This test between Australia and South Africa is even more special as former Australian spinner Shane Warne is also being honoured. Melbourne Cricket Ground confirmed that a total of 64,876 fans are present at the MCG for day one of the test matches, and it is a great number.

Many may argue that the number is less as compared to other Boxing Day test matches or the T20 World Cup finals (Men’s and Women’s), but having around 65k fans for a test match is certainly a huge number. The atmosphere in the MCG looks great for the first day of the match.

UPDATE: Day 2 attendance was 42,614.
