MI Highest Run Chase in IPL History: What is the Biggest Target Achieved by Mumbai Indians?

Poor death bowling in back-to-back matches in the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League might yet again make lives difficult for the Mumbai Indians batters, who will yet again need to have guns blazing right from the get-go, this time against the Gujarat Titans bowlers at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

MI’s three overseas fast bowlers in Riley Meredith, Cameron Green, and Jason Behrendorff conceded as many as 77 runs in the final five Overs of the Gujarat innings, thereby handing them a steep target of 208 runs across 20 Overs.

The foundation for a huge total was laid by GT’s opening batter Shubman Gill (56 off 34), who smashed his third half-century of the season, with the help of 7 Fours and a Six.

However, it was the destructive partnership between Abhinav Manohar (42 off 21) and David Miller (46 off 22) worth 71 runs off mere 35 deliveries which guaranteed the Titans of a strong finish. A 20-run cameo off mere five deliveries off the bat of Rahul Tewatia made sure that they surpassed the 200-run mark.

What is the Biggest Target Achieved by Mumbai Indians?

The biggest target achieved by the Mumbai Indians was during the 2021 edition of the league against the Chennai Super Kings, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

MI had chased down the steep target of 219 runs handed by the CSK batters with 4 wickets in hand. The likes of Faf du Plessis (50), Moeen Ali (58), and Ambati Rayudu (72) were the notable contributors for the ‘Yellow Army’ during the innings.

The target was accomplished on the final delivery of the match, courtesy of a scintillating knock off the bat of Kieron Pollard, who smashed 6 Fours and 8 Sixes to score 87 individual runs off mere 34 deliveries.

Thus, MI will have to register their second-highest successful run chase tonight against the Gujarat Titans.
