Mitchell Marsh: Australian all-rounder dismisses Nicholas Pooran and Lendl Simmons on successive deliveries to turn the tables in St Lucia T20I

Mitchell Marsh: The Australian all-rounder registered a career-best performances across departments at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

During the fourth T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of West Indies in St Lucia, Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh contributed significantly in both the innings to power Australia to their maiden victory on the tour.

Having dismissed veteran West Indies batsman Chris Gayle (1) in his first over itself, Marsh returned to dismiss Nicholas Pooran (16) and Lendl Simmons (72) on successive deliveries at a time when Australia needed wickets to stay in the game.

Both the batsmen were dismissed in their attempts of playing aerial shots off Marsh. While Pooran was caught at long-off by Daniel Christian, Simmons had hit straight to Moises Henriques at deep mid-wicket.

Chasing a mammoth 190-run target in Gros Islet, West Indies fell short by just four runs despite Fabian Allen (29) scoring four sixes in Riley Meredith’s penultimate over. In the last over, it was down to Andre Russell vs Mitchell Starc as the latter successfully defended 11 runs.

With bowling figures of 4-0-24-3, Marsh picked his career-best T20I bowling figures and was well-assisted by spinner Adam Zampa who sent back Evin Lewis (31) and Andre Fletcher (6).

Earlier, a 114-run partnership for the second wicket between Australia captain Aaron Finch (53) and Marsh (75) had laid a solid foundation after the former had won the toss and elected to bat first. Marsh, who put on display career-best performances in both the innings, was declared the Man of the Match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
