Rahul Chahar catch vs Sri Lanka: Indian spinner grabs terrific boundary catch to dismiss Avishka Fernando in 2nd T20I

Rahul Chahar catch: The rookie Indian spinner put on display a noteworthy fielding effort to dismiss the Sri Lankan opener.

During the second T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of Sri Lanka in Colombo, India spinner Rahul Chahar played a vital role in the outfield to dismiss Sri Lanka batsman Avishka Fernando.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the third over when Fernando hit an aerial shot off India vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Getting more height than required, Fernando found himself in trouble after the shot.

Having said that, Fernando’s dismissal wouldn’t have been completed without Chahar grabbing a terrific boundary catch. Running towards his right from fine leg, Chahar had the presence of mind to catch the ball, throw it in the air, regain his balance and then grab the ball again.

Opening the batting with wicket-keeper batsman Minod Bhanuka, Fernando departed after scoring 11 (13) with the help of two fours in a 133-run chase at the R Premdasa Stadium.

Kumar, who took the new ball for India as is the norm, gave away only a couple of runs in addition to drawing first spell in his two-over first spell.

In the first innings, India scored a mediocre 132/5 in 20 overs after Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to field first. Opening the batting with debutant Ruturaj Gaikwad (21), India captain Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for his team with his 40 (42) comprising of five fours.

Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya, who dismissed Dhawan and wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson (7), was the pick of the bowlers for his team with bowling figures of 4-0-29-2.
