Rohit Sharma news today: Indian opener, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw among five players to self-isolate after potential bio-bubble breach

Rohit Sharma: The senior opening batsman was among five Indian cricketers who visited an indoor restaurant on New Year’s day.

India opening batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and fast bowler Navdeep Saini have been asked to “self-isolate” after a potential bio-bubble breach in Melbourne.

The five cricketers had visited the Secret Kitchen restaurant at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne on Friday. Despite the same being an indoor restaurant, CA and BCCI are investigating the matter with respect to whether the same breaches the biosecurity protocol or not.

All the aforementioned players came into limelight after a fan named Navaldeep Singh took to social media platform Twitter to upload several posts of the players sitting on the table in front of him. The generous fan also paid the Indian players’ bill in a bid “to do least for his superstars”.

“Pant never hugged me…”

As evident in a tweet above, Navaldeep brought unwanted criticism for Pant after his claim of hugging the southpaw. Navaldeep later clarified that he didn’t hug Pant and that the above mentioned tweet was posted in an excited state.

Rohit Sharma and four other Indian cricketers asked to self-isolate

As per Cricket Australia’s official statement, the five players involved have been asked to self-isolate to keep them away from the rest of the Indian and Australian squads. Till the time the investigation is being carried out, these players will travel and train separately.

“The BCCI and CA are investigating the matter and seeking to determine whether the outing constitutes a breach of biosecurity protocols.

“In the interim, on the advice of the Australian and Indian medical teams, the aforementioned players have been placed in isolation as a precaution. This will include separating the group of players from the broader Indian and Australian squads when traveling and at the training venue,” read CA’s official statement.
