India captain Rohit Sharma‘s rough patch continues as he got trapped in front of the wickets to a pacey Pat Cummins delivery in the first innings of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 final against Australia at the Kennington Oval.

India desperately needed for Sharma to play a captain’s knock in yet another knockout match of an ICC (International Cricket Council) event especially after Australia posted a humongous total of 469 in their first innings. However, despite looking good in the initial few overs, he had to make a long way back after scoring 15 (26) with the help of a couple of fours.
The 36-year-old’s innings today has arrived after yet another lackluster season with the bat in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2023. Across 16 innings, Mumbai Indians skipper had scored 332 runs at a pedestrian average of 20.75.
Rohit Sharma Record List In ICC Knockout Matches
Since ICC World Twenty20 2007 in South Africa, Sharma has batted a total of 16 times in ICC knockout matches (including today’s innings). It is worth of a mention that India have made it through to the knockout phase of an ICC tournament eight times since they lifted the T20 World Cup title under the captaincy of MS Dhoni 16 years ago.
While his 30* unbeaten runs during the final of the aforementioned tournament against Pakistan was instrumental in India registering a triumph, he has not really played to his potential in majority of other knockout matches.
His couple of standout innings had arrived against Bangladesh during ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 quarter-final and ICC Champions Trophy 2017 semi-final.
Across the 16 innings listed below, he has scored 577 runs at an average of 44.38, with the help of a couple of centuries.
