"Serious Business": Gautam Gambhir Had Once Revealed Why He'd Never Befriend Virat Kohli on a Cricket Ground

Not many a times one would be bombed with every possible information with regard to what transpired on a Cricket field, which had nothing to do with the contest between bat and the ball.

Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli coming face-to-face with some heated verbal exchanges, remained the fans of their decade-old quarrel at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, when they were leading KKR and RCB respectively in 2013.

While Gambhir is part of the IPL as the global mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants since the previous season, the intensity with which he used to operate during his playing days as the Southpaw batter definitely hasn’t diminished one bit, and the spectators at the Ekana Cricket Stadium last night were witness to the same.

Amidst all the brouhaha, especially across the several social media sites, a particular old video is doing quite some rounds where Gambhir is seen speaking about his chemistry with Virat Kohli, and how the aggressive side to their personality is what drives them to perform their best on the Cricket field.

He had confirmed that the fight between the two during the RCB vs KKR match in 2013 was nothing personal, and rather a reflection of their personalities as a captain.

The former India batter further even went on to state that if he would be required to be aggressive against Kohli on the field yet again, he would not shy away from it, and no matter how good their bonding is off-the-field they would never be good friends on the field of play.

“Again, I want to make this thing very clear. Tomorrow, if I’m playing against Virat again and if I have to be aggressive again, I’ll be aggressive. That’s the kind of personality I have and that’s the way I want to play the game till the time I play, and I expect the same from him as well. That we are pretty good friends and want to be pretty good friends, but not on the Cricket field,” Gambhir had remarked during an interaction with NDTV.

Kohli, Gambhir fined 100% match fees post verbal altercation in Lucknow

Both Gambhir and Kohli were fined 100% of their match fees for breaching the Code of Conduct post the heated argument the two had on the field last night at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The duo admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct during the match.

LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who was also in the limelight for having a go at Kohli, admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.21, and was fined 50% of his match fees.
