South Africa tour of Pakistan 2021: South Africa to play two Tests and three T20Is in Pakistan next year

South Africa tour of Pakistan 2021: The Proteas will travel to Pakistan after a 14-year gap for two Tests and three T20I in 2021.

South Africa will travel to Pakistan after a 14-year gap to play a couple of Test matches and three T20Is early next year. After Sri Lanka, the Proteas will become the second major Test team to visit Pakistan since 2009.

Set to reach Pakistan on January 16, South Africa will play the two Test matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi before playing all the T20Is in Lahore in a tour that will range between January 26 – February 14.

The last time South Africa had visited Pakistan was in 2007 under the captaincy of current director of cricket Graeme Smith.

In what was a two-Test and five-ODI tour, South Africa had won the Test series 1-0 before winning the last two ODIs to clinch the series 3-2.

It was three weeks ago that England Cricket Board had given the nod to play a couple of T20Is in Pakistan in October 2021 before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in India. Other than South Africa and England, there have also been talks of New Zealand and West Indies visiting Pakistan next year.

“South Africa confirming a tour to Pakistan and playing matches at the three major centres is a fabulous news for Pakistan cricket and its fans. South Africa is one of the most popular sides in Pakistan even though they last played here in 2007, but the fans have been following their performances closely and now look forward to welcoming them,” PCB director Zakir Khan said in a statement.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan are currently in New Zealand for a three-match T20I and a two-match Test series which will be played between December 18 – January 7.
