Dhoni, who has a net worth of INR 1,040 crore in 2023, was unsurprisingly the highest tax-payer in the Indian state of Jharkhand in the financial year 2017-18. In fact, Dhoni had pinned down high-net-worth individuals of both Jharkhand and Bihar by paying INR 12.17 crore as income tax in that financial year.

In FY 17, he had paid income tax of INR 10.93 crore which was INR 1.24 core less than in FY 18.

Dhoni was the second highest-paid cricketer in the world in 2018 just behind his successor Virat Kohli. According to Forbes, Kohli earned around INR 228.09 crore, whereas Dhoni earned INR 101.77 crore. While Dhoni was at the fifth position in the Forbes India Celebrity Top 100 list, Kohli was at second.

In 2018, Dhoni had an annual contract of INR 1 crore with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Apart from that, he earned a match fee of INR 3 lakh and INR 1.5 lakh per ODI and T20I respectively. In IPL 2017, he got INR 12.5 crore with Rising Pune Supergiants and INR 15 crore with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018. Starting from a very humble background, Dhoni’s journey has been an inspiration for many around the world.

How Much Did MS Dhoni Pay As Income Tax In 2021-2022?

According to reports available in the public domain, Dhoni paid INR 38 crore as income tax in the last financial year, i.e., 2022-23. Needless to say that he was again the highest taxpayer of Bihar and Jharkhand. Even after retiring from international cricket, Dhoni’s earning has not taken much of a toll.

It is clear that Dhoni is a brand in himself in spite of playing just one tournament throughout the year these days.
