During the third day of the fourth Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia in Brisbane, India pair of Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur continued to surprise the cricketing fraternity on behalf of the current Indian Test team.
Just when another Indian batting collapse was on the cards, Sundar and Thakur joined hands to stitch a game-changing 123-run partnership which brought India back into the match.
Batting for the first time in Test cricket, Sundar and Thakur’s left-right combination left the Australian bowlers clueless. Sundar and Thakur’s batting skills weren’t unknown until today but the manner in which they dominated over a session at the Gabba speaks highly about both their skills and determination.

Unlike some specialist Indian batsmen, Sundar and Thakur didn’t play a rash shot to throw their wicket away especially after looking good for 20s or 30s.
While Sundar scored 62 (144) with the help of six fours and a six, Thakur top-scored for India with his 67 (115) comprising of nine fours and two sixes. The pair played a pivotal role in powering India to 336 in 111.4 overs as Australia registered a 33-run first innings lead.
Virat Kohli lauds Shardul Thakur in Marathi
Regular India captain Virat Kohli, who had returned to India after the first Test due to a paternity leave, took to social media platform Twitter to eulogize about Sundar and Thakur.
“Outstanding application and belief by @Sundarwashi5 and @imShard. This is what test cricket is all about. Washy top composure on debut and tula parat maanla re Thakur!,” read Kohli’s tweet.
Kohli, who wrote in Marathi to appreciate Thakur, took a reference from his 2019-tweet regarding Thakur when he had played an important cameo in an Indian ODI win against West Indies at home.
“Tula maanla re Thakur,” Kohli had written back in the day which translates to “hats off to you” in English. Similarly, tula parat maanla re translates to “hats off to you again”.

What this test series has done is, it has exposed the bench strength of India which seems Solid n International ready. Exact opposite for Australia. Beyond Smith n Labuschange nothing in the kitty. Mirror on the Wall for Aussies. #AUSvsIND #GabbaTest @BCCI @rohangava9
