Jonny Bairstow dismissal: Virat Kohli jumps for joy after nailing DRS call to dismiss Bairstow at Lord's

Virat Kohli celebration: The Indian captain, after consulting with his teammates, called a DRS decision to perfection at Lord’s.

During the fifth day of the second Test of the ongoing India’s tour of England at Lord’s, India fast bowler Ishant Sharma picked a wicket on the last of the second session to leave the hosts in tatters.

It all happened on the last delivery of the 22nd over when England batsman Jonny Bairstow was beaten by Sharma’s in-swinging delivery. Despite the ever-reliable Michael Gough ruling an lbw decision in Bairstow’s favour, India captain Virat Kohli was optimist about the same after discussing it with Sharma and other fielders.

Subsequent replays then confirmed that Gough had erred on this particular occasion as the ball would’ve clearly hit the stumps. Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 16th over, Bairstow walked back to the pavilion after scoring 2 (24).

Sharma, 32, who was introduced into the attack after the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj created instant impact in his first spell by dismissing Haseeb Hameed (9) and Bairstow before tea.

Chasing a 272-run target, England have been reduced to 67/4 in 22 overs and need 205 runs in 38 overs to win the match in the last session. With captain Joe Root looking solid in the middle, other batsmen will have to manage to survive for a session against an in-form Indian bowling attack.

Earlier, it was a phenomenal unbeaten 89-run partnership for the ninth wicket between India pacers Mohammed Shami (56 not out) and Jasprit Bumrah (34 not out) which saw them not just saving the match but putting their team on the driver’s seat.
