Virat Kohli opener stats: Which is the best batting position for Kohli in ODIs?

Team India again displayed their struggle with the ball in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur. The bowlers started on a brilliant note, but they could not dismiss the tail of the side. Apart from struggling in bowling, the team was also forced to use Virat Kohli as an opener in this match.

In the 2nd over of the Bangladesh innings, Indian captain Rohit Sharma injured his thumb while attempting a catch at the slip cordon. He was immediately taken off the field, and Rajat Patidar replaced him. KL Rahul then led the Indian team for the rest of the innings.

Team India had the option of opening with KL Rahul, but Virat came out to bat with Shikhar Dhawan. Bangladesh tried a spinner in front of him, and Virat started with a boundary as well.

Virat Kohli opener stats

Virat Kohli came to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan in the absence of Rohit Sharma, and it is not the first time that he opened the innings for India. He has been a regular opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, whereas he has opened for India in T20Is as well.

This was the 6th time that Virat opened an ODI inning for India. Although, the opening records of Virat are not that great, and he has managed to score just 161 runs at an average of 26.83 with the help of one half-century. He managed to score just 5 runs in 6 balls in Mirpur as well.

It is safe to say that batting at number three has been the best for Virat in his ODI career. He has played 200 ODIs at the number 3 slot, where he has managed to score 10237 runs at 60.22 with the help of 36 centuries and 54 half-centuries. Even at number 4, he has scored 1767 runs at 55.22 with the help of 7 centuries and 8 half-centuries.
