‘Practice what you preach’ – goes an old adage which will perennially stay relevant for people across generations. However, one will come across very few instances of individuals adhering to this popular saying, simply because it is indeed very challenging for people to have certain set of principles in their lives which they would follow come what may.

Former team India batter Virender Sehwag, after presenting his take (akin many Cricket experts) on the heated argument which had taken place between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir at the Ekana Cricket Stadium a couple of days ago, has undoubtedly driven his point home, but there’s a catch.
In his bid to take a moral high ground while presenting his views on the unfortunate incident, Sehwag has come across as just another guy whose opinion holds very little weight due to his double standards.
Virender Sehwag, Who Endorses a Pan Masala Brand, exposes his hypocrisy while advising Kohli and Gambhir
Virender Sehwag and the legendary Sunil Gavaskar have recently surfaced in a surrogate advertisement of a popular Pan Masala brand. Needless to mention that considering the harmful effects of a Pan Masala, which evidently leads to oral cancer and other diseases due to the presence of tobacco in it, is the last thing that sportspersons should advertise.
Despite it all, during an interaction with Cricbuzz a couple of days ago, Sehwag was of the view that since Gambhir and Kohli are icons of the country and millions of kids might imitate their on-field behaviour, they should have refrained from having an ugly go at each other.
“Ye icons hain iss desh ke. Agar icons kuch bhi karte hain to unko lakhon bachche follow karte hain, aur vo sochte hain ki mere icon ne aise kiya hai to sahi hai, aur main bhi aisa karun. To agar unke mann me vo baat dhyan me rahegi to aisi harkatein kam hongi [They are the icons of this country. If icons do something, there are millions of kids following them who eventually try to justify their actions and imitate them. Therefore, if they keep these aspects in mind, such unruly behaviour will rarely take place],” remarked Sehwag.
Sehwag forgets he, too, is a role model for kids
However, the 44-year-old has perhaps forgotten than he, too, is a role model for millions of such kids in the country and should have also kept this in mind before deciding to advertise for something as harmful as a Pan Masala.
Thus, before passing value judgments and delivering sermons, Sehwag should first address his double standards and hold himself accountable for his actions. The kids will take care of themselves.
