WATCH: Manish Pandey Deserts Mitchell Marsh as Major Mix-Up Leads to Run Out at Chepauk

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh (5) had to walk back to the pavilion due to his unfortunate participation in a major mix-up with batter Manish Pandey in Indian Premier League 2023 Match 55 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium tonight.

It all happened on the first delivery of the fourth over when Pandey dabbed a Tushar Deshpande ball on the off-side to immediately show interest in a quick single. Having also taken a start, Pandey provided all the right signals to Marsh to convince him for a single.

However, just as the non-striker committed himself into a run, a change in mind for Pandey saw him returning back to his crease without giving a thought about Marsh. With the latter way down the crease, there was no way he could’ve returned back safely.

Fielding at cover, CSK batter Ajinkya Rahane (21) sprinted towards the ball before fetching it and running towards the stumps at the non-striker’s end instead of taking a risk via a direct-hit.

Taking into consideration both the batters’ form, the general perception must have expected Pandey to sacrifice his wicket especially after committing an error on his part. However, it is easier said than done for a batter who gets to play matches on occasional basis nowadays.

Pandey, who was the visitors’ Impact Player on Wednesday, failed to create any sort of impact. Other than deserting Marsh to his dismissal, Pandey failed to adjust to the spin-friendly conditions scoring 27 (29) at a strike rate of 93.10 at Chepauk.

With his team looking unlikely to seal a 168-run chase, the 33-year old player might not get an opportunity in their next match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
