Toss has been delayed ahead of Indian Premier League 2023 Match 45 between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. With rain making its presence felt around several parts of Northern India, a delay to a match being played in Lucknow today isn’t surprising by any means.

Although it had been raining occasionally in the city since morning, match officials announced an official toss delay only a few minutes before the scheduled time, i.e., 03:00 PM (local time).
Historically, the month of May is generally known for soaring temperature as part of the peak summer season in India. Having said that, western disturbances causing a drastic change in the climate have slowed down the onset of the Indian summers this year.
Weather in Ekana Cricket Stadium
Fourth match of the season to have suffered an unfortunate fate on the part of weather gods, it is noteworthy that it might just become the first IPL 2023 match to face a loss of overs due to the climatic conditions.
If reliable weather portal BBC Weather is to be believed, rain probability will remain below 50% throughout the match hours on a double-header day. Slated to commence at 03:30 PM, there are 43% chances of rain over the Ekana Sports City at the time. In spite of a minor decrease, the number will remain in this vicinity till night (almost 08:00 PM).
Therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to speculate a start-stop arrangement in what is going to be third match between Super Giants and Super Kings in IPL history.
UPDATE: The cut-off time for a match was 07:28 PM. However, the match officials called-off the match 30 minutes prior to that due to incessant weather conditions.
