The third Test match of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia will begin from tomorrow at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With the series level at 1-1, both teams would be keen to gain an unassailable lead in the four-match series.
Despite not revealing their Playing XI for the New Year’s Test, the hosts have confirmed that opening batsman David Warner will return to Test cricket after a year. India, on the other hand, have made a couple of changes to their XI even after coming on the back of a clinical victory in Melbourne.
While Warner will obviously allure plentiful eyeballs, a lot of attention will also be on Australia batsman Steve Smith for the premium player is yet to fire in the Test series. As far as the visitors are concerned, the inclusion of several rookie names will grab maximum attention.
Out of the 12 Tests that both Australia and India have played in Sydney, Australia have won on five occasions as compared to India’s solitary victory in 1978. With their last two Tests ending in a draw at this venue, a result would be the best outcome especially regarding the context of this series.
