The last leg of Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies in the form of the first Test will commence at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from tomorrow.
The last time West Indies and Sri Lanka had locked horns in Test cricket was more than 30 months ago during Sri Lanka’s tour of West Indies in Barbados. In a total of 20 Tests against each other, West Indies have won just four as compared to nine Sri Lankan victories.
Sri Lanka, who have registered a solitary victory in six white-ball matches on this tour, would be desperate to drub the hosts in the longest format. Having said that, the same would be no mean task considering how West Indies are coming on the back whitewashing Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
Kraigg Brathwaite, who had led West Indies in Jason Holder’s absence in Bangladesh, has now been declared as their Test captain and will lead an XI comprising of Holder in his eighth Test as captain. As far as Holder is concerned, the 29-year old player will be playing a Test as a non-captain after almost six years.
