Why is Mitchell Marsh Not Playing Today's IPL 2023 Match Between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium?

Delhi Capitals have made a couple of changes to their Playing XI for the 44th match of the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The development means that they will be taking the field in an away match without all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and pacer Mukesh Kumar.

Third cricketer to win a Player of the Match award in a losing cause in IPL 2023, Marsh had finally found form on the back of picking a four-wicket haul and scoring a half-century in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. Missing an in-form player is quite a setback for a team which has won the minimum number of matches in the season thus far.

Why is Mitchell Marsh Not Playing Today vs Gujarat Titans?

Capitals captain David Warner confirmed the changes after winning the toss and electing to bat first. “We will bat first. Nice wicket, looks a bit dry. Want to put runs on the board. Unfortunately, Mitch [Mitchell] Marsh is sick,” Warner told host broadcaster Star Sports Network at the toss.

While Warner didn’t provide precise details about Marsh’s sickness, he did reveal that pacer Khaleel Ahmed has recovered from a niggle. Although not part of the starting XI, one could see Ahmed participating as an Impact Player in the second innings.

Batter Rilee Rossouw and all-rounder Aman Hakim Khan have replaced Marsh and Kumar in the Playing XI respectively. In three IPL 2023 innings, Rossouw has scored 44 runs at an average and strike rate of 14.66 and 133.33 respectively. Khan, meanwhile, has scored 34 runs at a strike rate of 125.92.

Defending champions Titans, on the contrary, haven’t made any change to their combination. As a result, refraining from making changes to a well-set team which is currently at the top of the points table.
