Why is Mitchell Marsh Not Playing Today's IPL 2023 Match Between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals at Barsapara Cricket Stadium?

It is not for the first time that Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has returned home after playing a handful of Indian Premier League matches. Currently into his second season at Delhi Capitals, Marsh has flown back to Australia after playing their first two IPL 2023 matches.

The development has forced DC to bring West Indies batter Rovman Powell back into the Playing XI. Marsh, who had scored 0 (1) and 4 (4) at No. 3 against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans respectively, is highly likely to be replaced by South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw at that position assuming if Capitals don’t bat their Impact Player in the top-order.

All in all, Delhi have made three changes to their Playing XI for the 11th match of the ongoing 16th season of the IPL against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. In addition to Marsh, batter Prithvi Shaw and all-rounder Aman Hakim Khan are also not playing this match.

Unlike the previous two instances, Marsh has thankfully not picked up an injury in the first week of the IPL. Readers must note that Marsh has taken a short break from this season to get married to fiancee Greta Mack.

“He [Mitchell Marsh] is not going to be available for the next few games. He is getting married,” DC fast bowling coach James Hopes had confirmed to the reporters ahead of their match against RR.

Marsh, who was ruled out of IPL 2017 and IPL 2020 due to shoulder and ankle injuries whilst playing for Rising Pune Supergiant and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively, hasn’t been ruled out of this season. Having said that, there is no confirmed date with respect to his return to join Capitals.

Having made his IPL debut for Deccan Chargers way back in 2010, the 31-year old player has played only 31 matches in the biggest T20 tournament in the world across four franchises and six seasons.
