Why is Prithvi Shaw Not Playing Today’s IPL 2023 Match Between SRH and DC in Hyderabad?

During the 34th match of the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, Capitals’ skipper David Warner has won the toss and chose to bat first.

“We are gonna bat first. Looks a nice surface, has got a nice even sheen to it. If you put a good total on the board, you can defend it. It’s about being consistent. We got to start well in the first 6 with bat and ball,” remarked Warner upon winning the Toss.

DC have made a couple of changes to their playing XI from the previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Wicket-keeper batter Sarfaraz Khan marks his return back to the starting XI, while batting allrounder Ripal Patel gets an opportunity to showcase his talent for the first time this season.

As for SRH, there are no changes to their playing XI from the previous game. As they are bowling first, left-arm pacer T Natarajan is part of the eleven in place of Rahul Tripathi. Tripathi is highly likely to bat while chasing as the impact player substitute.

Apart from mentioning the fact that Patel and Sarfaraz are in for the match tonight, Warner did not disclose as to why Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the playing XI.

However, one does not need to brainstorm the reason for Shaw’s exclusion. Having started each of the six innings so far for DC alongside Warner, Shaw has been way too far from batting to his potential best.

He has added mere 47 runs across these six innings, averaging a paltry 7.83 while being dismissed inside the Powerplay each time.

With DC’s middle-order also not firing, it was perhaps becoming really difficult for the franchise think tank to hand him further opportunities.

Also, in a bid to further address their middle-order woes, Ripal Patel will likely replace Lalit Yadav tonight.
