Wriddhiman Saha COVID update: When will Saha join Indian team for WTC Final 2021 in England?

Wriddhiman Saha COVID update: The veteran wicket-keeper batsman had contacted the virus during Indian Premier League.

Veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has recovered from COVID-19 and will travel alongside the Indian team for the tour of England.

Saha is part of India’s 20-member squad for the ICC World Test Championship Final 2021 and a five-match Test series against England on a tour which will last for almost 15 weeks.

Representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the defunct 14th season of the Indian Premier League, Saha had scored 8 (15) across two innings before getting left out of the Playing XI for the second time in seven matches. In what started as cough and cold, it eventually saw Saha testing positive for COVID-19 in Delhi.

It was only last week that Saha had cleared the air regarding his health in a bid to prevent people from spreading “misleading stories” around his availability for England tour.

Having completely recovered now, Saha has been granted permission to meet his family in Kolkata before joining the rest of the squad in Mumbai. It is worth mentioning that the Indian team will begin its two-week long mandatory hotel quarantine period in Mumbai from tomorrow.

Mumbai residents in captain Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, opening batsman Rohit Sharma and head coach Ravi Shastri will join the team on May 24. While the exact date remains unknown at this point in time, Saha is also expected to join the squad around the same time as the above mentioned names.

Saha, who is currently second after Rishabh Pant in the pecking order of the Test team, hasn’t played a Test match in England. While he was part of the Indian squad in 2014 under former Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he had missed the tour in 2018 after injuring his shoulder in the IPL.

Other than Saha, batsman Lokesh Rahul (acute appendicitis) and standby pacer Prasidh Krishna’s (COVID-19) availability for the England tour was also subjective to fitness.
