To state that the Pakistani bowlers were beaten black and blue would be an understatement, as the England batters were not only all over them like a rash, but also went on to create some records on their way despite playing mere 75 Overs in the day.
Courtesy of the ‘Bazball’ approach, England went on to become the first team ever to surpass the 500-run mark on the scoreboard on ‘Day 1’ of a Test. Also, they became the first team to have as many as four centurions on the first day of a Test match.
The thrashing began with a 233-run stand off mere 36.4 Overs between the opening pair of Ben Duckett (107) and Zak Crawley (122). It was then followed by another couple of tons off the bats of Ollie Pope (108) and Harry Brook (101*), with the latter not only smashing his maiden Test century in his second Test innings, but also going on to become the third fastest centurion in the format for England, in mere 80 balls.
At Stumps on ‘Day 1’, Brook (101*) and Ben Stokes (34* off 15) were still at the crease with the scorecard reading 506/4.
Shoaib Akhtar reckons Pakistan fast bowlers are not yet ready to excel in Test Cricket
Post the end of day’s play Shoaib Akhtar took to his social media handle to term the Pakistan pacers playing the ongoing Test as ‘T20 fast bowlers’, who will require to put in loads of effort and hard work to become proper Test match bowlers.
He then went on to add that the team overall comprises a group of youngsters who are ‘very innocent’, and will soon learn that playing Test Cricket is not an easy job.
“Nothing against the youngsters. Hamari team hai, ye bachchon ki team hai, achche bachche hain, aur saron se mai milan bhi hoon(This is our team, a team comprising young kids who I have met before. They are really innocent). They are very innocent. But you know Test Cricket is actually very bruising, and it is not a pleasant site to watch them getting hammered,” remrked Akhtar.
