Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fifth goal of this season’s Champions League campaign against Ajax in the last eight of the competition. The Portuguese International was rarely involved in the game throughout the first half, but made his presence felt by scoring an excellent header just moments before the half time whistle.
It was Ajax who had control for most parts of the game, thanks to the midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who is keeping the game ticking. From a simple throw-in, Rodrigo Bentancur ran past Ajax’s midfield and passed the ball to the right-back Joao Cancelo who positioned himself well to find someone inside the penalty box. The deadly movement of Cristiano Ronaldo came into effect when the Portuguese International dragged two defenders outside the box and just bluffed them to stand and watch him run past them and enter the six-yard box.
Cancelo produced an inch-perfect cross to find the Portuguese International who leapt to find a contact and head the ball past the shot-stopper Onana to open the account in this stage.
