The 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner and all the teams have started their initial preparations. The upcoming IPL season will also have the two teams; Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) back again after two years ban. MS Dhoni will again lead the CSK side alongside Suresh Raina as the vice-captain.

CSK were very shrewd in the auctions, buying a good mix of experienced players and the exuberance of youth.

However, CSK got a shock as their New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner was ruled out of the upcoming IPL season due to the knee injury.

Santner who was at the summit of the T20I rankings at the start of the year though suffered a knee injury that ruled him out of cricket for close to 9 months .

Santner could have been CSK’s trump card this time and his injury has come as a huge blow for the Chennai franchise, however, CSK aren’t looking for a replacement, as they feel they have enough players to chose from.

The franchise has not named anyone for his replacement and they are likely to name one only if needed.

CSK have a lot of spinners at their disposal, with Bhajji, Tahir and Jaddu to almost certainly feature in the XI. Jadhav and Raina can also bowl part time spin.

CSK play their opening game on the 7th of April against arch rivals Mumbai Indians and would be hoping to cap off their return to the IPL with a win.

MS Dhoni and co. will have to get their team combination spot on as Mumbai  would be a force to reckon with at the Wankhede.
