Dale Steyn ruled out of the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 vs England on May 30 at The Oval

The South African Cricket Team have been handed a heavy blow as their veteran fast bowler has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup opening match vs England.

The tournament opener will be played on Thursday, May 30 at The Oval.

The 35-year-old Proteas pacer had previously injured his shoulder last month while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League. Steyn had sustained a shoulder injury and had departed for South Africa soon after his injury to see a shoulder specialist.

He was roped into the South African 15-member squad for the World Cup as he was apparently fit to represent his side and win their debut World Cup title.

“He is not quite ready yet”- Gibson

The Head Coach of the South African team, Ottis Gibson while addressing a press conference at The Oval said that the speedster was not quite ready to feature in the tournament opener against England at the aforementioned venue.
