Daniil Kyvat returns to Toro Rosso

Daniil Kyvat has made a shock return to Toro Rosso, 2 years after being dropped from the team due to unimpressive performances.

Kyvat had had a brilliant start to his F1 career in 2015 when he joined Red Bull and finished above his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo in the driver’s standings.

However, he was later demoted to Toro Rosso, following a controversial crash in Russia and a few other below par performances.

In 2017, after the United States Grand Prix, Red Bull had terminated his contract and Kyvat hit his lowest point.

However, almost a year and half on from that day, Kyvat is making a shock return to Toro Rosso, replacing Pierre Gasly, who has been promoted to Red Bull from 2019.

Kyvat’s partner is yet to be finalised, but this move does come as a shock to the F1 community, who are trying hard to make sense of the move.

Kyvat is thrilled to bits to be able to return to Formula 1 and is indebted to Toro Rosso for giving him the opportunity for the same.

“First of all, I would like to thank Red Bull and Toro Rosso for giving me this opportunity to race in Formula 1 again and I am particularly pleased to be returning to a team I know very well. Toro Rosso has always made me feel at home and I’m sure it will still be the same next season.

“I would also like to thank Ferrari for trusting my driving skills which allowed me to stay connected to F1 as their development driver. Even if my duties were primarily simulator based, I’ve learnt a lot, and I now feel stronger and better prepared than when I left Toro Rosso.

“I never gave up hope of racing again, I am still young and I have kept in good shape to always be prepared in case another opportunity presented itself. I will give my best to deliver what the team expects from me and I can’t wait for everything to start again.” he said.

Twitter however was divided in opinion about Kyvat’s shock return to F1 and Toro Rosso.
