David Ospina having Napoli medical, after the Arsenal shot stopper had moved down the pecking order at the Emirates
David Ospina has fallen down in Arsenal’s pecking order. The Colombian shot stopper now finds himself at third place, behind new signing Bernd Leno and Petr Cech. He has been linked with a move to mainland Europe. Turkish giants Besiktas were interested in his services but could not reach a deal with the Gunners.
Aurelio De Laurentis has jumped in and wants to recruit the 29 year old for Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal. The Naples based club was anyway looking for cover in the goalkeeping department after their main man Alex Meret. The Serie A giants’ new signing suffered a broken arm last month with a return date last month.
David Ospina made 21 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions. However, only five of them came in the Premier League with all the others being part of minor competitions. Napoli will currently sign the 29 year old goalie on a loan and will also have an option to buy him should they be satisfied with his work for the club.
Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentis already confirmed of his desire to bring in David Ospina to the Stadio San Paolo. He also stated that Liverpool and Belgium keeper Simon Mignolet remained an option throughout. David Ospina is likely arrive in Rome where his medical will be held on Thursday’s early hours.
Serie A’s official season gets underway on the 18th of August and the transfer window closes ahead of that. No Italian first division outfit will be allowed to sign players after the deadline of 19:00 GMT on the 17th of August. Napoli’s first game of the season is a visit to the Italian capital, Rome, to take on Lazio.
David Ospina’s debut could be on Sunday’s match itself. The Colombian did feature in the World Cup and appeared in all four of the South American nation’s matches at Russia.
