Deodhar Trophy squads announced

Deodhar Trophy squads announced: The Indian selectors have announced the squads for the three teams of the Deodhar Trophy.

The Indian selectors have announced the squads of India A, India B and India C for this season of the Deodhar Trophy. Before talking about the players, a surprising update has been the selection on three teams instead of two.

Earlier, the selectors were slated to announce only two teams with the third one being the winner of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. In a bid to make the cream of Indian cricket play the tournament, that concept has been replaced by selecting three new teams.

Dinesh Karthik, who was dropped from the two-match series against Windies, has been named the captain of India A. Whereas, axed Indian batsmen and the Mumbai-duo of Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane have been named the captain of India B and India C respectively.

India A comprises of the young and in-form duo of Prithvi Shaw and Anmolpreet Singh up the order. In Karun Nair, Ankit Bawne and Nitish Rana, they have a trio of capable middle-order batsmen.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who hasn’t played ODI cricket since June 2017, has been named in the squad despite missing the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Mohammad Siraj, Dhawal Kulkarni and Siddarth Kaul will accompany Ashwin in the bowling department.

India B has batsmen of the quality of Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari, Manoj Tiwary and wicket-keeper Ankush Bains. Their bowling unit comprises of Deepak Chahar, Jaydev Unadkat and the Jharkhand duo of Varun Aaron and Shahbaz Nadeem.

India C will perhaps present the last chance to India batsman Suresh Raina to press a case for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Other names in the team are batting duo of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan and a rookie fast bowling line-up of Navdeep Saini, Rajneesh Gurbani and umar Nazir.

Veteran batsman Gautam Gambhir, who is currently the second-highest scorer of the tournament, hasn’t been named in any squad.
