Of the many things that made MS Dhoni special, it was his ability to feel secure about himself away from the spotlight that really stood out.

As a captain, Dhoni famously gave the winning trophy to the youngest member in the squad so that they could lift it while the team celebrated. People noticed this right from his first triumph, the T20 World Cup in South Africa and this continued till the end of his captaincy.
While many people wondered why he would do something like this, Mahi recently revealed his real reasons for it.

“It’s just that, if there is any youngster in the team who has performed well in the series and you hand him over the trophy, it works as an appraisal for him. You are appreciating what he has done. It gives them a lot of confidence,” he was quoted saying to Aaj Tak.
“At the end of the day, we have won the trophy. It doesn’t matter who holds it. But if I hand it over to some youngster and I’m getting benefited that he could perform better in future by this gesture then it’s a win-win situation for us,” he added.
It was one of the many contributions that Dhoni has made to Indian cricket. Now we can also see the current skipper Virat Kohli handing over the trophy to other members which shows that this will now hopefully be carried out by future captains.
A small but important little contribution from Mahi!
