Daniel Sturridge scored in stoppage time to win the game for England after Jamie Vardy had cancelled out Gareth Bale’s tremendous free kick.

The game started pretty dull and there was no major action in the first 20 minutes and it seemed that the game needed a bit of a lift from either of the sides. The game did lift off after 28 minutes with England testing Wayne Hennessey and creating several chances. However , it seemed like the same story against Russia as lacked quality in the final third.

The moment of the first half arrived when Gareth Bale hit a free kick from 40 yards out , beating Joe Hart who could have done better. Two brilliant free kicks in as many games from the winger who seems to be carrying his team on his own.

Roy Hodgson had some questions to answer during half time and he responded with two substitutes who proved vital ultimately. Jamie Vardy for Harry kane who seemed to have lost his confidence taking free kicks and corners and Daniel Sturridge for Raheem Sterling.

England continued playing the way they did in the first half and were rewarded when Vardy finished form 6 yards out after a Sterling cross was deflected off Ashley Williams , and even though there were claims from the Welsh players that Vardy was offside, Williams had clearly played him on.

1-1 after 56 minutes and the game was wide open, Wales ran out of gas and it was all England who threw out Marcus Rashford who became the youngest English player ever to feature at the European Championships.

With the game in stoppage time , it seemed like England will play out another 1-1 draw , Daniel Sturridge came up with some neat footwork to beat Wayne Hennessey and winning it for his team.

The win leaves England top of their group and they now only need a draw against Slovakia to confirm qualification for the next round.
