Eric Dier run into stands to confront fan after defeat against Norwich City

Eric Dier charged towards the stands to confront a Tottenham Hotspur fan after an alleged abuse to his brother, who was sitting in the same stand.

Tottenham Hotspur’s midfielder Eric Dier could get into trouble after he was spotted confronting a fan in the stands who allegedly abused his brother during the game against Norwich City.

A video surfaced online, where he can be seen leaping over the advertising hoardings to head into the west stand after Norwich eliminated Spurs on penalties.

A section of fans and stewards had to intervene to separate Dier from the fan he charged at after the end of the match. Meanwhile, Dier was also caught saying “he is my brother” in the video constantly.

However, the 25-year-old is bound to be penalised for his impulsive action by the FA. But, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho came in defence for Dier in the post-match interview.

“I don’t think that belongs to the game. The game was a fantastic representation of the FA Cup, but I cannot run away from the question,” Mourinho said on being asked about the Dier incident after the match.” said Mourinho

“I think Eric Dier did what we as professionals cannot do but when someone insults you and your family is involved, especially your younger brother.”

Further explaining the situation, the Portuguese manager added: “This person insulted Eric, the younger brother was not happy with the situation and Eric was not happy. We as professionals cannot do what he did.

“If the club discipline Eric Dier I would not agree with it, but what he did was wrong.” He further said. Earlier there were speculations that Dier went into stands to confront a fan who reportedly racially abused Gedson Fernandes but those rumours were later debunked.

Meanwhile, a fan claimed to be sitting in the same area said that Dier’s brother grabbed the guy who was abusing the Spurs star. Seeing the conflict, Eric went into the stands to deal with the situation.
