Euro 2016 Fantasy, Matchday 3

Belgium showed the world that everyone was right in labeling them as favourites for this tournament, as they played with a lot of flair and grace against tactically stout Irish side.

Lukaku scored twice, thanks to assists from De Bruyne and Hazard. The back 4 looked sure on the ball as well and overall it they played like a cohesive unit.

In the second game of the day Iceland took an early lead only to be undone by a late own goal. Sigurdsson’s penalty looked certain of providing them with full points but in the end it just wasn’t meant to be.

The last game of the day made news because of Ronaldo’s inexplicable penalty miss, something that could severely hamper Portugal’s chances of going deep into this tournament. Portugal drew their second game of the tournament and would need a good performance in their final outing to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

On the Fantasy front it was a great Matchday 2 as all my defenders gave me a clean sheet and thankfully I hadn’t drafted Ronaldo into my team, as that would have forced me to miss out on Griezmann and a few other attractive options.

Let’s get to business now!

Seeing that almost all my players have been included in the playing XI of their respective teams and all of them have performed well in the last Matchday, I am going to stick with them for this matchday as well and not use my wildcard.

Rami, Vertonghen, Pepe, Neuer and Ramos; all of them came out with clean sheets in the previous game and with even during this Matchday, none of them face a daunting attacking opposition.

Payet was brilliant in the previous matchday as well and Alli too chipped in with an assist. Ozil looked lively but couldn’t contribute, but I expect him to do so against a rather mediocre Northern Ireland side.

Griezmann scored a goal and Nolito exceeded expectations by scoring one and assisting one.

Again, against Ireland, I expect Muller to come to the party.

Modric is injured and isn’t likey to start in the next game and thus I transfer him out.

I get in Witsel instead of him. Witsel has been playing brilliant football for Zenit at the club level and he too has been leading the Belgian revolution in football (He scored a goal in the last game)

Now, for the games today, I’ll have Rami, Schar, Payet and Greizmann in my starting XI.

France should grab a victory against the Swiss and if that happens I am sure Payet, Greizmann and Rami will have a big say in that, just like last time.

Captain: Dmitri Payet

I have always stressed on the fact that having an attacking midfielder as your captain can do wonders for your team as a midfielder gets 5 points for a goal.

Between Griezmann and Payet, go for Payet, everyday of the week.

Now, if you want to use a wildcard, try and get defenders from Spain, Italy and Germany into your side.

Payet, Ozil, Alli should make for formidable midfield and opt for Morata, Griezmann and probably Ronaldo upfront.

Ronaldo hasn’t looked great in this tournament but then he is a big game player and with the kind of skill he possesses, he should step up when his nation needs him the most.

Happy Fantasy team picking!
