January Transfer News: Fiorentina Eyeing Lucas Torreira As Arsenal Look To Pull The Plug On The Player’s Loan To Atletico Madrid: Arsenal are eager to recall the player with the club disgruntled with the player’s treatment

With injuries and a disinterest from Arteta forcing Lucas Torreira to depart Arsenal, the player decided to opt for a switch to Atletico Torreira. While his opening period at the club was extremely hunky dory, things have ever since turned sour for the player.

Starting two matches for the club in the initial stages of his loan move, Torreira has ever since been relegated to a role away from the game. The player has featured only four times for the club in the last couple of months with all those appearances coming in as a substitute.

Although a lack of playing time at the La Liga leaders is down to the club signing Geoffrey Kondogbia back in October, Arsenal are yet to be persuaded. The Premier League club believes Atletico Madrid are trying to devalue Torreira with the decision to cut down his minutes being a well thought out move.

Atletico Madrid have been beleaguered with Arsenal ever since they made an approach for Thomas Partey. Given the scuffle between the two sides, Torreira could end up being recalled by Arsenal midway into his loan move which runs till the end of this season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Fiorentina have already lined up a move for the 24 year old midfielder if he’s called back to Arsenal. The Serie A outfit holds an ardent interest in the player and would be open to approaching Arsenal for a loan move.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta spoke about Torreira’s ongoing impasse with the manager saying he wasn’t overly bothered by the situation.

“I have had some conversations with Lucas,’ Arteta said on Monday morning. ‘He started the loan period really well, now he’s lacking game-time. It can happen, the team is doing exceptionally well,” Arteta said.

“They are first in the Spanish La Liga so when a team is winning it can be difficult to get in the line-up.”

Arsenal’s agent, Pablo Bentacur also said that his player was currently happy in Spain.

“Lucas is calm and happy and has nothing in his mind beyond continuing with Atletico,” Bentancur said in December. “He is finishing his process of adaptation.”
