Lewis Hamilton, who is one of the most iconic British sportspersons of all time, was once denied entry into the Wimbledon finals because of his attire. Hamilton is a man with unique taste in fashion and often travels around the world to attend several events in this industry. Unfortunately, it was fashion, which caused Hamilton major embarrassment at the Wimbledon Centre Court in 2015.
In 2015, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were set to go head to head for the Wimbledon Championships. The Mercedes star was invited to this blockbuster match along with several other celebrities.
Hamilton was supposed to watch the match from the Royal Box. For that, he had to follow strict dressing protocols which for men include a formal jacket, ties and shoes. However, the 38-year-old arrived at the scene without complying to this particular code.
Why was Lewis Hamilton turned away?
Lewis Hamilton was not allowed entry into Centre Court for the 2015 Wimbledon finals. After some time, it was revealed that Hamilton was turned away because he wore a bright floral shirt. This certainly meet the prestigious event’s dress code and was the sole reason behind him missing missing the Federer vs Djokovic bout.
Afterwards, reports stated that Hamilton failing to meet the dress code was down to a misunderstanding. The organizers regretted this, but because of their strict dressing policy, the Mercedes star was forced to miss the match.

Speaking about this, his spokesperson said as per the BBC: “Due to a misunderstanding over dress code, he is disappointed to have missed the final.” However, Hamilton himself didn’t make any comment on this.
Who were all invited alongside Hamilton?
Apart from Hamilton, Hollywood superstars Kate Winslet and Bradley Cooper, Benedict Cumberbatch, English soccer legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Thierry Henry, along with English actor Hugh Grant were all present for the finals.
Unfortunately, Hamilton was the only celebrity to not wear what he was supposed to. The seven-time world champion truly missed out on a spectacle, as Djokovic ended up defeating Federer in four sets to light the 2015 title.
Since 2015’s saga, Hamilton has never attended a single Wimbledon match. Other F1 drivers like Charles Leclerc, and Pierre Gasly have often been seen attending matches at Wimbledon, but Hamilton is yet to make a comeback.
