After Tortured Mental Health, Daniel Ricciardo Abandons $300,000 Token Linked to McLaren F1 Core Memory

Working with McLaren had its pros and cons for Daniel Ricciardo. On the one hand, he added to his race wins tally and got some added benefits in the form of exquisite company cars. On the flip side, however, the mental toll of it all was a high price to pay. Thus, it looks like Ricciardo is ridding himself of one such reminder of his time at McLaren.

A highlight of his career with McLaren and even the team’s recent history was the grandiose 1-2 finish in Monza. Crofty’s iconic welcome for Ricciardo at the finish line rings in every fan’s ears to this day. A moment to remember.

But maybe not for Ricciardo. Probably his last and only good memory with the team, a result of bagging the trophy at Monza was the grand homecoming parade organized for the drivers. For his grand entry, Ricciardo strapped in his beloved trophy in the passenger seat of his Lantana Purple McLaren 720S Spider.

Now, Ricciardo is parting ways with the car that he revved into the MTC as the team he left behind cheered and whistled for their most recent victor.

Daniel Ricciardo leaves behind McLaren 720s Spider

The starting price of this magnificent beast is a whopping $300,000. However, Ricciardo asks for $272,000 in exchange for his car. The car has been driven for a modest 6,749 miles and boasts several carbon fiber upgrades. It remains unclear whether Ricciardo bought the car for himself, or obtained it as a gift from the team. Regardless, the beauty is now in search of a new owner.

Flaunting a gorgeous Lantana Purple exterior, it is accentuated by 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels featuring sleek gunmetal gray designs, paired with bright yellow brake calipers. Various option packages have been added to the car, including the Performance Plus Pack, Convenience Pack, Exterior Carbon Fiber Upgrade Pack 1, Interior Carbon Fiber Pack 3, electric and heated memory seats, and 360 parking assist.

Although the model has been succeeded by the 750S, it stands as one of the fastest and most versatile supercars to hit the road in the last 10 years. With a 4-liter twin-charged V8 engine snug under its hood, the 710 hp is an experience to relish. Surely Ricciardo had some good times soaring in the car with the wind in his hair and the music on blast.

Ricciardo blames McLaren for deteriorating mental health

The Honey Badger has candidly spoken up about the adverse effect McLaren had on his mental health and was borderline depressed. With almost a year and a half of hopeless on-track woes that apparently had no rhyme or reason, Ricciardo had enough.

Speaking to RaceFans, Ricciardo confessed, “I don’t want to like, go too far and be like, ‘Yeah, I was depressed’ or whatever but I certainly wasn’t always eating as much. I think I just wasn’t feeling right.” He added, “I was honestly just not like my happy self, not my normal self.”

Now, back home at Red Bull, the smile once lost is plastered back onto the driver’s face. Taking a much-needed break to slow down, now we wait for his return.
