"Becoming Aston Martin has attracted them"- Otmar Szafnauer on his team attracting sponsors

“Becoming Aston Martin has attracted them”- Otmar Szafnauer has talked about his side attracting new sponsors amidst the rebranding.

Aston Martin entry into Formula 1 has changed fortunes for the owner Lawrence Stroll, who now is boasting about his new sponsorship deals, bolstering his revenue ahead of the new season.

He recently proudly talked about bagging a deal with the Cognizant, terming IT to be the future of F1. The team principal Otmar Szfanauer has credited the name of Aston Martin for the impressive deals.

“They all want to be part of this journey that we’re on, and for sure, Aston Martin, the name and what we’re trying to do and what our future plans are, have attracted a lot of sponsors this year,” Szafnauer told Reuters.

“I think becoming Aston Martin has attracted them, and also, the existing ones are happy we are taking the direction that we’re taking.” A couple of years ago, under the banner of Force India was about to go under administration. Hence, Stroll’s work on the team since then is commendable.

Lawrence is ambitious

While citing COVID-19 to be a genuine barrier for the corporates to fuel their money in the new ventures, Szafnauer has praised Stroll for his brilliant work in attracting sponsors.

“Some of it is definitely [down to] Aston Martin, and some of it is Lawrence — the owner’s ambition,” said Szafnauer. “So it’s got to be a combination of the two. I think [the signing of] Sebastian is secondary to that, its second order, but it does go to show our ambition.”

“If we have a continuation of the year we had last year, being the third-fastest car in most of the races, finishing on the podium multiple times, having a race win or even contesting for race wins, that’s a success for us,” said Szafnauer.
