Cult Hero Guenther Steiner Remains Unapologetic About Remarks in Drive to Survive

“Drive to Survive” might have turned Guenther Steiner into a star. The Haas team principal is well known for his rants and team meltdowns over the seasons which have become quite a spectacle.

Steiner’s Austrian-Italian accent and his frequent swearing make him a fun character in the series. With the series exploding F1’s popularity across the world, the South Tyrolean has become a cult hero.

While Steiner welcomes his popularity, he claims his life has changed because of the show. However, he avoids watching the show, to focus on his primary job of managing the Haas F1 team.

Guenther Steiner does not watch Drive To Survive?

Steiner became a star after his fallout with Kevin Magnussen after the Dane “Fok smashed” his door. The Haas team principal shared his thoughts about the show in his recent book, “Surviving to Drive”.

Surprisingly, the Haas boss himself hasn’t watched a single episode of it. He doesn’t consider himself an actor and claims watching the show would make him critical of his actions.

He wrote, “My fear is that if I watch the show, I won’t like certain aspects of how I behave and will try and change how I do things. I am not everyone’s cup of tea, but I am okay with who I am.”

Some of Steiner’s remarks have garnered a lot of criticism from fans, especially his comments on Mick Schumacher. However, the South Tyrolean remains unapologetic about himself. His reaction to his haters is simple, “If you dislike it, tough s***.”

Stiner recalls an interesting interaction with fans

Guenther Steiner credits ‘Drive to Survive’ for increasing F1’s popularity across the world. The Italian is still in disbelief regarding his fan following due to the show.

Last season, Haas released merchandise featuring images of their team principal along with some of his iconic lines from the show. The t-shirts were a big hit amongst fans who lined up to meet the Tyrolean wearing them.

In his book, Steiner recalled an interaction with a fan that left him wondering. He wrote“One guy who wanted a selfie was wearing a shirt with nothing but my face on it.”

The Haas team principal was left in shock and laughter upon seeing the fan’s t-shirt. He added, “Seriously, half his body was fully covered in hundreds of little Gunther heads.”

The Haas team principal claims everyone in his hometown recognizes him now. Even his mother and daughter have been identified and asked about Steiner’s whereabouts. The Haas team principal however dislikes the attention of the crowd, especially when he is out with family.
