Cyril Abiteboul leaves Renault’s operations, the press release reveals that Laurent Rossi will be taking over him at his current designation.
In the shocking updates ahead of 2021 Formula 1 season, Cyril Abiteboul appears to leave Renault ahead of the 2021 season, and will not be a part of the Alpine project.
It has been further stated that Laurent Rossi would be taking over his designation in the group, the information has been made official by a press release.
“I would like to thank the Renault Group for placing their trust in me over these many years, in particular for the relaunch and reconstruction of the team since 2016,” explains Cyril Abiteboul.
“The solid foundations of the racing team and the entities in France and England built over these years, the strategic evolutions of the sport towards a more economically sustainable model, and more recently the Alpine project which provides meaning and momentum renewed, let foresee a very good trajectory. ”
” I thank Luca De Meo for having associated me with the construction of the Alpine Business Unit and I wish from the bottom of my heart to the new structure the success to which it can claim,” he added.
Meanwhile, CEO of Renault, Luca De Mao showers appreciation and says he is grateful of Abiteboul for dedicating his years to Renault.
“I would like to warmly thank Cyril for his relentless involvement, which notably led the Renault F1 Team from a penultimate place in 2016 to the podiums last season, ” said Luca de Meo.
“His remarkable work in F1 since 2007 allows us to look to the future, with a strong team and the new Alpine F1 Team identity to conquer the podiums this year.”
Shocking revelation amidst Renault’s progress
While there were speculations of Abiteboul not being involved in Alpine project, his departure from Renault Group is still shocking and compared to the last two years, he had a better season with Renault, as the team ended with three podiums, and the team last won one in 2011.
Huge news in F1 circles. Cyril Abiteboul not only won’t take up his expected role leading the Alpine brand, he’s left the entire Renault operation. Laurent Rossi has been named Alpine CEO, with confirmation expected soon over who will head up the F1 team.

Though, what changes Alpine will have ahead of its 2021 its awaited to be seen, as most of the current setup in the team was created by Abiteboul.
