Daniel Ricciardo reveals the tattoo bet with Red Bull supremo Helmut Marko when he was a driver with the team.
Daniel Ricciardo is the funniest driver on the current F1 grid, hands down. A distant second is Lando Norris, who is going to have Ricciardo as a teammate at McLaren next season. Expect fireworks from the two talented drivers on and off the tarmac.
While Lando Norris is winning hearts by wearing the helmet designed by a young girl, Ricciardo is tattoo-betting with his bosses! He recently spoke about the bet with his current Renault Boss Cyril Abiteboul. That bet has been agreed to, but is yet to be fulfilled as Ricciardo is yet to win a podium over the last two seasons with Renault. This is what Ricciardo had to say regarding the terms & conditions of the tattoo bet.
“It’s a bit foggy, but I believe he chooses placement and size, but I choose the design. But we’ll clear that up,” he said in a press conference.
“But it’s a tattoo and he does not have any, so it’s a big deal for Cyril. (The design) I don’t know, I think it will be something probably a little spontaneous, spur of the moment.”
“But it’s got to be something funny that when he looks at it, he shakes his head and it’s like, ‘Remember those times?’ One of those ones.”
Ricciardo had a similar bet with Red Bull Boss Helmut Marko
Helmut Marko has gone to reveal that Ricciardo’s bet with Cyril is nothing new. The Australian had attempted it with him, but faced a rejection from the outspoken Marko. He also went on to call Ricciardo ‘frugal’ for a bet involving Valtteri Bottas, which Ricciardo lost. Wonder what will Ricciardo have to say on this one-word description by his former boss.
“He came along with his tattoo [bet]. So I said: ‘I will never get a tattoo in my life’.
“Ricciardo is a very frugal person. “That one really hurt him.”
Marko still friends with Daniel, calls him a top driver
Jokes and bets aside, Marko has incredible respect for the talented Australian, calling him “one of the top drivers”. He however clarified that had he been there at Red Bull currently, it wouldn’t have had any bearing on their results. That is pretty obvious considering Mercedes are in the league of their own, and 2nd place must feel like a victory for Red Bull.

“With Albon we are second in the constructors’ world championship.”
“We would be the same with Ricciardo.
“What is true is that we would have two drivers of equal skill. And it’s also more fun with Ricciardo. But he looked for his own way and he went with it. But we are still good friends.”
