Murray Walker, for a long time, was of the opinion that Juan Manuel Fangio was the greatest of all time. But a resurfaced video reveals the F1 pundit stated that Michael Schumacher is the true goat of the sport, not Fangio.
Walker further adds to his point that Schumacher is the greatest by saying it’s not just because of the statistics. Then the late F1 commentator mentioned how the Ferrari move from Benetton was the game-changing decision for the German phenom.
Schumacher jumping to save the sunken ship Ferrari back in 1995 was praiseworthy. Despite winning the world championships with Benetton and having the chance to win many more, he chose to be on board with the Prancing Horse and save their day.

Furthermore, the former BBC journalist also emphasized the seven-time world champion’s behavior as a plus point over his reconsideration to shift from Fangio in the GOAT debate. He said Schumacher was a “top bloke” as he was extremely courteous and very cheerful.
Schumacher’s historical move to Ferrari
The late BBC man also emphasized how the German world champion driver helped the Italian team by bringing in the right people from his old team and rebuilding the Maranello-based brigade into a world-class and world-champion outfit.
Speaking on this, he added,
“He has done it by sheer leadership, by persuading the right sort of people to join the team. Ross Brawn, the technical director, Rory Byrne, the design director, and various other people. And Michael Schumacher has led all of them absolutely superbly.”
Michael Schumacher’s wet-weather Monaco masterclass came on this day in 1997 – the first victory of the German’s renewed partnership with Ross Brawn at Ferrari.

This was the rise of a team that became the most successful team ever. Even though Michael Schumacher didn’t have the taste of the world championship in the first few years, once he broke the shackles in 2000, there was no stopping for him until 2004. This was the time when he won back-to-back five world championships.
Is Michael Schumacher the GOAT of F1?
Despite numerous conceptions about Schumacher’s GOAT status, according to Murray Walker, many didn’t agree with his judgment. While he has been considered arrogant by fellow German athletes, his teammate Eddie Irvine didn’t think twice about calling him an “idiot.”
Despite all these negatives, Walker believes Schumacher is the Greatest of all time in Formula 1. For a man who lived through generations, there’s hardly a doubt over his expertise in calling the 54-year-old driver the best ever.
And why not when the esteemed driver has seven F1 world titles, won 91 races [the second most ever], has 155 podiums under his belt, and, all in all, the savior of Scuderia Ferrari as his greatest feat said Sir Jackie Stewart.
