Vitantonio Luizzi, a former teammate of Sebastian Vettel’s has recently opened up about his F1 days. The Italian raced with Vettel during their Toro Rosso [now AlphaTauri] days and therefore made a startling revelation in the recent Beyond the Grid podcast.
Before arriving at Red Bull in 2009, Vettel raced for Toro Rosso for two years in 2007 and 2008. There he was a celebrated figure as he became the youngest pole-sitter in F1 history. He also followed it up with a race win, which staggering considering Toro Rosso was Red Bull’s sister team.
However, him and Luizzi had very different careers in the years to come. Despite that, the Italian driver claims that Vettel never had ‘crazy pace’. Instead, he had his own tricks that he relied on, in order to stand out.
Luizzi revealed Sebastian Vettel did not have enough pace
Luizzi recently spoke about his time with Vettel from their Toro Rosso days. There, he mentioned how Vettel had world class capabilities, and was as talented as the latter’s idol, Michael Schumacher himself.
In doing so, he also revealed secrets behind the four-time world champion’s pace. Talking about this, Luizzi said in the Beyond the Grid podcast, “His speed didn’t seem crazy to me, it was fine. But I never struggled to keep up with his pace.”
With this, he added, “Without a doubt he was very good at being in the right place at the right time. Both with the strategy and with the choice of tyres. I think he was born into the ideal environment: it was noticed how luck was on his side, but you create luck yourself, and Sebastian was very good.”
Even though Luizzi claims that Vettel never had crazy pace, F1 fans think otherwise. To them, the German former-driver is one of the fastest in the sport’s history, and they want him back in the grid now that he is retired.
Despite Vettel’s retirement, fans want him back
After having an illustrious career with four F1 world championships and 53 wins, Sebastian Vettel finally left F1 in 2022. He took the decision during the 2022 Summer break and eventually retired at the end of the season.
However, one of the reasons behind his retirement is believed to be the environmental concerns which doesn’t align with it interests. Vettel is a massive advocate for issues related to the environment and the climate.
Nevertheless, fans believe that the four-time world champion still has a lot to offer to the sport and want him to return. Even if he doesn’t return as a driver, the community would love to see him take up and advisory role.
