When Lawrence Stroll brought back the Aston Martin name to F1 in 2021, huge things were expected from the outfit. Unfortunately, they haven’t really lived up to expectations as of yet. Their main aim was to compete with the frontrunners which has been a distant dream up until now.
A driver pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll was promising, but there was little the four-time World Champion could do with the car struggling to get into Q2 in qualifying. At the end of the 2022 season, Vettel announced his retirement from F1. His departure could have left a huge hole in the Silverstone-based outfit, but they found a worthy replacement very soon.
Tensions between Alpine and 2-time World Champion Fernando Alonso were high. As a result, when the Spaniard saw an opening at Aston Martin, he joined immediately on a multi-year deal. Aston Martin will be hoping to achieve big things with the legendary driver at the helm of their 2023 car.

Lawrence Stroll is heading into 2023 with huge optimism
2022 was yet another difficult year for Stroll and Aston Martin. The Canadian and his team was also accused of trying to copy the designs of other cars in F1 to help boos their cars performance- something which they denied. However, heading into the new season, they insist that their car is completely new.
The deputy technical director of Aston Martin revealed Eric Blandin revealed they took all their learnings from the 2022 car to put it in the development of the 2023 challenger.

“We took all our learnings from last year’s car,” he said. “And applied them to this year’s car. So much of the AMR23 is new, it’s completely different from the AMR22.”
“We’ve changed more than 90 percent of the parts. And more than 95 percent of the aerodynamic surfaces are different,” he added.
