George Russell Steps Up to Lead Drivers' Push to Achieve the 'Ultimate Dream' by Making F1 More Entertaining

In the past few years, many have raised concerns about how the lack of wheel-to-wheel racing has made F1 boring. Amid these rising concerns, George Russell has stepped up to lead the drivers’ push to make the sport more entertaining not only for the fans but also for the racers.

While speaking in a recent interview (as quoted by soymotor.com), the star Mercedes driver explained how ‘simple things like further tire degradation can make racing more exciting‘. He then also went on to comment upon how it is the ‘ultimate dream’ for drivers to race other competitively as they did during their karting days. He explained,

We will discuss this with the FIA because we want to be able to compete as we fought each other in karting, when aerodynamics was not an issue. It’s the ultimate dream“.

Russell hoping for more action from F1 and FIA to promote better racing

Even though George Russell believes that significant progress has been made to promote better racing, he yet believes a lot more can be done. One of the things he praised was how the new regulations have helped cars follow each other better in the dirty air to provide better chances of overtaking.

After having taken this step, he believes that F1 can now work on the DRS zones. Russell believes that since they have currently taken the ‘wrong path’ when it comes to this, the drivers now need to work alongside F1 to find solutions to make overtaking easier.

George Russell has had an average start to the 2023 season

After the first five races of the 2023 season, George Russell currently finds himself in sixth place in the Drivers’ Championship. He has scored 40 points and is four points behind the Ferrari of fifth-placed Carlos Sainz and another 12 points behind his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

One of the primary reasons for Russell’s subpar start to the 2023 season has been the inconsistency of his performances. While the 25-year-old has had two outstanding fourth-place finishes this season, he has also had a seventh and eighth-place finish alongside one DNF.

Hence, following a relatively poor start to the new season, Russell and Mercedes will now hope to score some good points in the upcoming triple-header. The first of the three races will take place in Imola from May 19 to 21.
