Guenther Steiner Guarantees F1 Seat to Lewis Hamilton if Billionaire Toto Wolff Pays for It

Guenther Steiner, Haas F1 team principal, has risen to fame due to his incredible shenanigans on Netflix’s successful F1 docu-series, Drive to Survive. To further his legacy in motorsport, Steiner has now released a book titled – ‘Surviving to Drive’ which highlights the highs and lows of the 2022 F1 season.

In an interview with Metro, Steiner discussed the major talking points of the 2022 season. One of these topics was Lewis Hamilton‘s future in the sport. The 7x world champion is nearing the end of his contract with Mercedes in the 2023 season and has not signed an extension yet.

On top of that, Hamilton is once again racing in an underperforming Mercedes which has triggered speculations about Hamilton’s retirement. Speaking on the matter, Steiner had a creative idea that would assure Hamilton a seat in the 2024 season but there’s a catch.

Guenther Steiner ready to sign Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton is constantly being asked about his future in motorsport and his retirement plans. To all those questions, the 38-year-old has repeatedly said that he wishes to remain and continue with the Silver Arrows. Steiner, too, believes that Hamilton will stay put with the Brackley-based team but he has another hilarious idea.

Steiner confirmed that he would sign Hamilton to his team if Mercedes’ Billionaire team principal Toto Wolff picks up the bill. “If Toto pays his salary, yes absolutely! You have to write that now! When Toto asks why he should pay the salary, I’ll say, “Because you should!” Steiner told the Metro.

Furthermore, speaking on Hamilton’s future Steiner clarified that he believes Hamilton will stay with Mercedes. “Which other options has he got?” the 58-year-old questioned.

Steiner is loyal to Gene Haas

Steiner has been the team boss of the Haas F1 team ever since the American camp made its debut in F1 in 2016. He even helped establish the team alongside Gene Haas.

When asked if he would be willing to take up a job at any of the front-running teams, Steiner revealed that he has no intention of doing so. He said, “I’ve got a job to finish here at Haas.”

Steiner further explained that he started Haas and he is attached to the team. He revealed that he “put a lot of effort in to get Gene Haas to come into Formula 1.”

Steiner explained that he feels quite loyal to Gene and to the people at Haas because the job isn’t finished. I need to bring the team at least one or two steps forward,” Steiner further added.
