"He definitely had a big role to play in the poor result this weekend"- Nico Rosberg criticizes Lewis Hamilton for his disastrous outing at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg did not hold back while criticizing former Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton for his poor performance in Imola.

Hamilton’s season goes from bad to worse, as the Brit endured a P13 finish in Imola. His weekend never really took off, with him qualifying P13 for the Sprint race. There, he lost another place and started Sunday’s race from 14th.

A lot of people expected him to charge up the field and into the points, but that didn’t happen. In-fact, he struggled throughout the race, and even got lapped by 2021 Title rival Max Verstappen.

After the race, Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff took to the team radio to “apologize” to Hamilton for providing him with an ‘undrivable’ car. This apology didn’t sit right with a lot of people, including 2016 Champion Nico Rosberg. In an interview with Sky Sports, the German said that only Hamilton was to blame for his poor performance.

“It’s very smart because it’s not quite the truth and let’s not forget that Russell is in P4 with that same car. So Lewis definitely had a big role to play in that poor result this weekend,” Rosberg said.

As always, fans are divided about how to react to Hamilton’s P13 finish. It was shocking to see the seven-time Champion struggle this much, particularly when his teammate George Russell took the car to a fourth place finish.

Some fans felt that what Rosberg’s comments exposed the mind-games within the Mercedes garage. Others ended up slamming Hamilton’s former teammate for taking unnecessary digs at him.F1 Twitter began to accuse Rosberg of being obsessed with Hamilton.

Hamilton is now down to seventh in the Drivers’ Championship Standings whereas Russell is in fourth. Mercedes are third in the Constructors’ Standings behind Ferrari and Red Bull.
