"He's Getting on With His Age": Guenther Steiner Snubs Lewis Hamilton from His Haas Dream Team

Lewis Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver in the history of Formula 1. The achievement itself bolsters his case to be the greatest F1 driver ever. Even at 38, the Mercedes driver looks sharp and capable enough to extend his winning tally.

However, his portfolio isn’t appealing to Haas boss Guenther Steiner anymore. In an interview, Steiner was asked who would be his dream team at Haas, and he named Max Verstappen as a definite entry, and the second choice would be either George Russell or Charles Leclerc.

Interestingly, he snubbed Hamilton from his list of entries despite the Briton having more accolades than anyone. The Italian team principal tries to reason with his decision.

“I wouldn’t say Lewis, because he’s getting on with his age,” said Steiner to SkySports. Though, he added that even in the 40s, drivers are doing well while citing Fernando Alonso’s example.

Lewis Hamilton has no one else

Hamilton’s heydays with Mercedes are certainly in the past. This is the second year in a row when the Silver Arrows have failed to give him a car worthy of a championship fight.

Therefore, there have been speculations about Hamilton leaving Mercedes. But Steiner believes there is no other place for the 38-year-old driver to continue his winning ways.

According to the Haas boss, the only place Hamilton would currently fancy going is Red Bull. However, according to him, the Milton-Keynes-based outfit already focuses too much on Max Vertsppaen. Thus, the current world champions wouldn’t be interested in bringing Hamilton.

Looking for years ahead

With Mercedes giving up hope on the 2023 season after an underwhelming beginning, they are now focusing on the coming years. They have already started to make amends that could boost their chances of contending for the championship yet again.

So, surely the 103 Grand Prix winner would be hopeful about the next year’s prospects. Amidst all this, he has also reiterated his loyalty to Mercedes and even claims he wants to end his career with his current team.

So, after achieving everything, Hamilton wouldn’t want to have instant gratification by switching services for the most dominant team. Instead, at Mercedes, he would fancy having a crucial role in the re-buildup.
